Since we’re past the Fourth of July and the summer season has officially started, what are your plans for the summer? Vacations, trips? Trips that involve reading? Reading plans? If you’re going somewhere, do you do any reading to prepare? Do you read local literature as part of your trip? Have you thought about using the LT Local feature to help plan your book-buying?- courtesy of the Boston Bibliophile
Hmm plans for the summer. Well this week I’m volunteering at Vacation Bible School, from which I come home exhausted!!! I don’t have energy for anything much besides reading, which may actually be a good thing for my TBR pile lol. I’ll also be going down the shore from the 19th-26th which I’m really looking forward to. I’ll definitely be spending a lot of time reading on the beach.
As it’s our usual vacation spot, Ocean City, NJ, I won’t be doing any reading to prepare, although I have read some local literature in the past. I also don’t really use the Local LT feature. The only things it shows me are local Barnes&Noble and Borders stores. Now if it showed me a really great used bookstore super nearby- now that would be great!
Have you found any great stores through LT Local?
Missed my last post? It was REVIEW: “OF SWANS, SUGARPLUMS, AND SATIN SLIPPERS” BY VIOLETTE VERDY.
Not through LT local, but http://www.booksalefinder.com has been good to me and found me a great used bookstore nearby where all the books are $2 or less! LT local was useful when I lived up near Boston, but here in NJ it only shows me B&N and Borders like yours.
I really enjoying teaching VBS – it is tiring but so rewarding.
Ooh the beach – that sounds so nice! Especially right now…when I just found out I have to come in on a day I thought I had off…even though I have less than two weeks left at work…
No, I’ve never found anything local on LT. It’s always Ann Arbor, Chicago, and Indianapolis for me. I don’t drive (I refuse to pay for gas), so it has to be happening here in town… in the lovely little trackside town of Logansport, home of the Iron Horse Festival (though, they stopped having the train ten years ago, and three years ago stopped calling it “The Iron Horse Festival”, yet the city signs proclaim it, so it must be so!)
The closest thing to a beach we have here is the stone quarry-turned-public swimming hole. They hauled in lots of sand and called it a “beach” (but I’ve been to the gulf a couple times, and they ain’t foolin’ me!) I haven’t been swimming there for about six years, I quit after having a fish swim up my suit.
VBS wears me out too! Even doing the small things. LOL Course the last few years I was in charge so this year I didn’t do anything but drop my kids off! That was wonderful! LOL
I could see how VBS would wear anyone out!! I have my two kids everyday and they ware me out 🙂
Oh, I love NJ, when I was little we stayed in Ventnor for several summers….the beaches were beautiful!! and the boardwalk too! I would rather be in Oregon in the summer though, it is just too hot in Jersey
Thanks for the recommendation Kathleen. I will definately check it out. I’ve never been to the Jersey shore but I love the beach whenever I can make it.
Wow you must have stamina to make it through VBS! I’m worn out just volunteering at the Friday Night Church Socials my kids go to.
I haven’t found LT local very helpful … but then again I know pretty much every book store from Nova Scotia to Montreal. lol 🙂
VBS used to exhaust me even when I was a kid! I can’t imagine what it must be like for the adults involved – I think you’re amazing for volunteering. Hadn’t looked at LT Local until Marie pointed it out, but now I’m very interested – I’ve found several local book places that I didn’t know about!
Bible school sounds like fun- and like a lot of hard work too.:-) I work in a religious school & I know how satisfying it can be though. Good for you 🙂
No, I have never found any great stores through LT Local. Louisiana isn’t exactly the hot spot for book buffs. 😦 Most of our book shops have closed. The only one remaining is so small that I you can’t move without touching something or someone. I get an icky feeling whenever I go in.
Oh, the beach sounds wonderful, I am so jealous! I live in W. Texas, so the beach is just a distant dream…. Thanks for visiting my blog, love yours:)
