Today’s topic, courtesy of The Boston Bibliophile: Book-swapping. Do you do it? What site(s) do you use? How did you find out about them? What do you think of them? Do you use LT’s book-swapping column feature for information on what to swap? Do you participate in any of the LT communities that discuss bookswapping, like the Bookmooch group for example?
Well this will be short. I don’t really book swap. I thought about Bookmooch and some other sites but it looked like you had to send out books before you could really get anything… and usually the only reason I was on swapping sites was because I was trying to get my hands on something asap.
Plus I have a disease— I can’t give up books, unless I HATED them. I do lend out books on Librarything. I have no problem lending, I just lol want them to come back to me to stay in my library. Lol so if you see something in my library that you’d like to read, feel free to ask for it because I have no problem sending it out- just know you’ll have to send it back to me at some point
If you do use bookmooch, what do you think of it?
Missed my last post? It was PLAGIARISM UPDATE.
Missed my last review? It was REVIEW: “WORLD MYTHOLOGY” (2ND EDITION) EDITED BY DONNA ROSENBERG

I love Bookmooch. It’s not a perfect system but I think it works well. You just have to trust people to do their part, and for the most part they do. I don’t mind getting rid of books before I get new ones- I’ve given far more than I’ve received- and it’s refreshing to me to clear the shelves and make room for new books!
PaperBackSwap might satisfy you somewhat, Kegsoccer. You can buy credits, so you don’t have to give anything up. They’re $3.45 for a credit, which is still cheaper than a new book, but it’s on way around your “diseas”.
You can also buy credits on PBS from other members, check the Book Bazaar forum, and can usually find them for around $3.
I like BookMooch and PBS. I think there is actually a limit to the number of credits you can buy on PBS, but I’m not sure!
Oh, I have that disease, too! Does it have a name? Obsessive Book Hoarding Disorder (OBHD?)…maybe we can think of something a bit more clever. As much as I like the idea of swapping, I’d only be able to do it if I bought used books with the express purpose of using them to swap for books I want…and then I’d hold onto those forever, too, unless they were really bad. I do give away the duds.
Thanks! The picture at the top of my page is of the facade on the parking garage at the Kansas City Public Library where I was married in January–we were married in the Grand Reading Room, not the parking deck–and it was a bibliophile’s dream!
Your disease hasn’t reached the acute stage mine has — I can’t even lend books out if I want them back. Too many have gone missing or had something spilled on them when they were away. *The Namesake* and *The Kiterunner* were enthusiastically passed to friends, never to be seen again. I guess I should focus on the good feeling of sharing good books (I can always get replacements!)
Yup, I definitely have that disease! I am certainly a hoarder, and I don’t really like to lend books out either, so you are more generous than I am. I just like them too much.
I think this disease is spread through the reading of books!! I also have a hard time parting with any book I consider worthy of a re-read
I’m definitely another victim of the dread book hoarding syndrome (BHS?). I’ve had it since I was a child and used to issue library cards to my little cousins so they could borrow from my “stacks.” I never went so far as to make them pay fines for late returns, but it did occur to me!
Count me in too! OBHD has a hold of me tight! I did let it lapse last year when I moved and I knew some books had to go, but I have made up for the books I lost within the last year…plus more!! My name is Allison…I am a bookaholic!
I also have the disease, but I figure it could be alot worse, My name is Julie…
Thanks for visiting my blog & reading my TT. Where do you keep all those books of yours???
There is a limit to the number of credits you can buy on PBS, but I think it’s like 20 a month, which means you can still buy one just about every day! =)
