This week’s question, courtesy of Marie at the Boston Biliophile: So the question this week is- how many books do you have cataloged in your LibraryThing account? How do you decide what to include- everything you have, everything you’ve read- and are there things you leave off?
Haha. I have 1049 books cataloged in my LibraryThing account. To me it was a no-brainer what to include. I own all 1049. I don’t really understand adding books that you’ve only read… although I know that some people do. But to me the purpose is to have all of the books in your library listed, thus the name LibraryThing. If I get rid of a book, I’ll delete the entry on LibraryThing. Although, for EarlyReviewer books I’ll keep them listed on my account even though I may give them away. (This is because your review will disappear if you delete a book from your library.) I suppose I’ll just tag those books accordingly. But that’s the only case of a book being in my library that I don’t own.
Missed my last post? It was NEW CONTEST POST.

LOL – I am one of those who add only the ones I have read, starting last year.
Lol well I knew you people were out there
over 1000 books entered – I’m impressed! We’ve got that many in the house, but I got sidetracked in the mid-200s … this week’s topic will inspire me to put aside a little time each day to keep cataloging!
I know I let out a big sigh of relief when I got them all entered
It’s so satisfying once they’re all on LT!
Yes, I agree. I think LT is for books you own. I started off only adding the ones I’d read but soon got up to 200 and decided it was worth adding in everything. It is addictive and a great way to record what you own, plus being able to rate and review them all in one place.
My problem is storage – where do you keep so many books – mine are all over the house.
I see what you are saying and it would be nice to do it that way….right now mine is so chaotic I can’ t even think! Ah! I really need a scanner to get my books in there!!!
I agree – the purpose of my LibraryThing account is for listing all my books whether I’ve read them or not. Of course, I fully intend to read every one of them “some day”!
I add some borrowed books just because I like to see what I’ve read the past few years. I didn’t try and remember all the borrowed books I’ve ever read, and there’s less than twenty of them anyway.
We really have to keep in ER books despite not always keeping them, otherwise we won’t get any more!
I add what I own, whether I’ve read them or they’re waiting to be read. I’ve decided that I will add borrowed books too suitably tagged of course.
I’m someone that rarely gives up a book so I doubt deleting something I don’t have anymore will crop up.
Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I, too, use librarything to keep track of books I own, even though I might not have read some of them quite yet (ever hopeful). Actually, given that my books are spread all over the house, I often check librarything before I buy an older book, just to make sure I’m not buying something I already own. It’s saved me twice, already.
me again!! I tagged you…I actually have two memes I just did today, I tagged you for the Author’s meme. If you want to play of course!
I am exactly the same way. My account is only of books I actually own and I delete the ones I give away–except for the ER books for the reason you stated.
Hooray for someone else with over 1,000!! I was beginning to feel like a weirdo. It sounds like we use LT pretty much the same way, except of course for my dreadful lack of tagging. =)
Lol it took me awhile to get to 1000, but now I feel rather accomplished!
